This gorgeous family came all the way from Indiana for family portraits during peak fall foliage, and my favorite mountain spot did not disappoint! There is a reason Raven's Roost Overlook on the Blue Ridge Parkway is full of photographers every night (and most mornings), it has one of the most impressive mountain views around. It has a little of everything, a rock outcropping, 180 views, stone structures, wooded trails, and open mountain fields of wildflowers. As I've been working on a moodier feel in my work, I'm really starting to love blue hour* as much as golden hour**, so I have been pushing my times back to shoot a little of each, and I am loving the results. Their session was so perfect I was able to give back over 300 images from our short time together. Little Julia couldn't have been easier to work with, the wind up top gave lovely gentle movement, and those luscious sun flares make me so happy. Perfect session in the perfect spot. Thank you guys so much for hanging out with me, can't wait to do it again!!
*Blue Hour: the hour after sunset. Starting when the sun disappears on the horizon, the light is soft with a blue cast, it will be dark by the end of the hour.
**Golden Hour: the hour before the sun sets. Light is soft and warm and may include sun flares, starting the hour before the sun dissapears.
